I have also heard some people claim that God DID NOT create the evidence of the earth being much older but rather that Satan did so after creation to trick people. LOL

And your four "conflicting" views above don't all seem conflicting (or even different).  The New Earth Creationism is the only one that is different or in conflict with the others.  The other three seem to all be compatible with one another and if one were true it would not mean either of the other two were untrue.  Also, the Old Earth Creationism and Theistic Evolution (as defined above) are identical views.  You leave out all the non-Christian religious stories and the non-religious philosophical theories by the way.

Yes yes.

The above links go into more detail on the differences between the four primary views found in the US, as well as discussions on some of the other world religions.  I really didn't feel like copying everything they have, as it's quite a lot.  Just wanted to give some material rather than just saying "go read their stuff."

Heh, heh.

I figured as much.

Your statistics (if true) sadden me, by the way, as they indicate that almost half of the population holds a Fundamentalist viewpoint.

Always question the source.  I thought those were pretty suspicious.

The site lists the reference for the statistics.  I believe it was a Gallup poll done in 1997, but check the site to be sure.  I don't know what the sample size or margin of error was.

However, considering the preponderance of anti-same-sex marriage amendments passed in recent elections, I'd say the numbers, while maybe not perfect, are statistically accurate enough.

The problem with saying that God could have created the world
10,000 years ago but done so such that the objects had a history of
much longer is that the same arguement could be used to say that
the world was created YESTERDAY (or moments ago) and that all of
your memories from your childhood and such are just a "created"
history in much the same way as the tree rings.

Perhaps the world was only created 10,000 years ago, with a history
that seemingly projects back millions of years. If so, then there is no
way to debunk this claim and no reason to do it, since from our
current perspective, the two situations would be identical. It was
Albert Einsteign who claimed that if you can't tell two things appart,
no matter how much scientific scrutany you apply, then for all
purposes, they are the same thing.

Therefore, if God created the world 10,000 years ago so that it had a
history of millions of year, then for scientific purposes, the world is
millions of years old.

I guess I don't see how religious zealots can't allow that God could have created the world millions of years ago (using the Big Bang even), allowed for evolution to bring us to where we are, and then permitted the self-centered humans who wrote Genesis made up their own version of creation (just as other religions have also).

on the topic of religious jealouts:

* Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson told his "700 Club" TV audience in June (1998) that the city of Orlando, Fla., was taking a big risk to sponsor the recent "Gay Days" festival.  "I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes," he said, "and I don't think I'd be waving those [Gay Days logo] flags in God's face if I were you."  Homosexuality, he said, "will bring about terrorist bombs, it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." (In fact, 1998's first hurricane, Bonnie, made landfall two months later in North Carolina, near the Virginia Beach, Va., headquarters of Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network.)  [AP wirecopy, 6-10-98]
